The Book Umbrella – It’s Raining Novel Studies!

A small portion of The Book Umbrella’s library.
In time we’ll be making novel studies for most of the novels above!

If you follow the Book Umbrella on TPT or our Facebook page, you may have noticed that we’ve been releasing lots of novel studies lately. Since the start of February, we’ve added 22 new ones, including How To Train Your Dragon, Hatchet, and Little House in the Big Woods!

The reason we’re able to add so many so frequently right now is that we have a whole ton of books which we’ve slowly been working on bit by bit over the past few months. We work by section: First, vocabulary work for a handful of books, then comprehension, then typesetting the file. The last step is thorough final edit where we each take a turn double-checking the content to make sure it’s accurate. So, with this workflow, we now have a backlog of thirty or so books that are ready for their final edits! Our goal is to release at least one novel study every couple days for the next couple months! Some books which are coming up are Matilda, Maniac Magee, The View From Saturday, Sideways Stories from Wayside School and The Giver.

We are always open to suggestions for books we can do novel studies for in the future (preferably elementary level) so feel free to send your suggestions to us through TPT, email, or leave them in the comments here!

Some good news for us is our Book Umbrella TPT shop has recently hit a milestone – look out for us to be mentioned in an upcoming TPT newsletter!

If you’d like to keep up with the new novel studies we release, you can follow our Book Umbrella TPT shop, or follow us on Facebook!

Catching Up With The Book Umbrella

bookumbrellalogoOver the last month or so, our novel studies shop, The Book Umbrella, has been undergoing a bit of a make-over. For starters, we’ve updated the look of all of the study pack covers. Take a look!

Doesn’t the new version look better? We created the new covers using linen textures, geometric patterns, a rustic-looking font and by making sure to stick to a set color scheme. We think it’s a more appropriate style to use considering we’ll soon have some novel studies for books geared toward middle school and early high school kids.

Today, I added a novel study for Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, and just a few days ago, a study for Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe. Check them out in our TPT shop (and later, when it’s up and running, our Little Red’s Treehouse shop!)

During the summer there wasn’t much action in the Book Umbrella TPT shop as far as new books being added, but believe me, I’m set to make up for that this fall! Here are a few of the titles I’m currently working on which you can look out for in the coming weeks!

Do you have a suggestion for a novel you’d like The Book Umbrella to make a study set for? Feel free to leave it in the comments, or send us a Tweet!
